Interaction
So far I have been working on my interaction and playing around with curves which was my first idea on my storyboard. I want to make something that is fluid, organic and mesmerizing while still maintaining an exciting interaction. I have made a few first attempts at curves which have proven difficult and have used mouseX and mouseY to make them move. I am still in a very primitive place as the curves only move with the mouse and are not smooth and bend into un-organic shapes. I will experiment with dist() to see if I can achieve the overall effect I am after. The link button on my blog hasnt been working so I will post my attempts soon.

curve development

4...http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=35830
These are a few quick in class experiments I did after deciding that I wanted to do something with curves. They are not very interactive and don't have a very fluid movement about them, they are in fact very awkward, but I would like to continue with the idea of making curves and fluidity.
So far I have just experimented with curveVertex and transparency of the different lines and line positions.
In my next experiments I will need to use variables to define my code more so that I am not drawing every curveVertex as I have done in these experiments.

mouse play
This was just a little play around using mouseX, mouseY. Pretty simple and not very effective.

Decision Time
Looking at my 3 ideas I am being more drawn to the 1st idea which is the curves. In our storyboard presentation Ben told me that the raindrop idea is a bit cliche and that I would be best to experiment with the 1st or 3rd ideas. The idea of particles still intrigues me so I might try and experiment a bit with them aswell and see how I go.
More Precedent images
Although I like the look of natural curves I also like this precendent image which is a light vertex. I usually find colours to be a bit tacky but even though these are bright I like them. I also like the look of these line placements and the curves of the 2nd image aswell.
Particle Precedents
I love the look and interaction of particles engines and if I decide to go in that direction these would be 2 nice precedent images for particle ideas.

Open Processing Favourites
We were told in class to look through the open processing website to get some inspiration for our upcoming project. These were a few of my favourites....

- sketch by -Daan van Hasselt
This is one of my favourite sketches. I love the patterns created when the mouse is clicked, it is very organic and fluid though it is quite slow moving in it's interaction.

This curtain sketch is one of the favourites of most people I think. It's fun to play with and very soothing. I love the fluidity of the sketch and think its a great interaction incorporating different types of interactions.

I also like in this sketch the use of different movements of the particles and how colour is used in a non tacky way. Also the fluidity is beautiful. I want to create something fluid as my sketch.

Final Posts
This is my final set of patterns for the second hand-in. I decided to stay with the ellipse theme and used variables to explore the structure of the circle and sphere, changing the size, structure and adding rotations to create a more 3D effect. I wanted them to be variations of eachother but at the same time to change and break out of normal circular structure.

...
Playing with the transparency of the fill, I was able to create a more 3D looking object with a bit more depth than the previous experiments.
more patterns
I continued on with ellipse variations and changing stroke weights and the variable amounts.I want to try and create a more 3-D looking structure in my further experiments.
further development
In these experiments I experimented with changing the fill, stroke and transparency of the sketch, I also used variables which made it a lot easier to manipulate the pattern and create different variations.
development
For my first experiments I decided to start experimenting with ellipses, when first starting to use the pattern maker I did not quite understand how to use a variable to the best advantage so in my first attempts the patterns are quite long with no use of variables. I then tried out experimenting with some of the examples shown to us by Ben Jack in one of the tutorials and decided with continuing on with the ellipse style structures.
pacific island patterns
I took inspiration from pacific style patterns in the first hand-in and I would like to continue exploring this style of patterning with the over-lapping of the circles.
Precedent images
The natural patterns created within these objects I find to be very beautiful. I love how something so natural can be almost mathematical.
